Turns out men shouldn’t drink more than women after all

LONDON — For years, men in the UK have been told they can drink more alcohol than women – the recommended limit for them was three to four units a day, compared to two to three units for women.

Now though, the Department of Health has issued new guidelines stating that neither men or women should consume more than 14 units over the course of a week, which is the equivalent of six pints of medium-strength beer or seven glasses of wine a week.

The new new guidelines for alcohol consumption, which were produced by the UK’s Chief Medical Officers, replace the previous advice on drinking, which dates back to 1995. Read more…
