Banksy trolled the art world, and the internet is running with it.
The enigmatic street artist pulled off an incredible stunt last weekend, giving a giant metaphorical middle finger to the art world. As soon as his painting, “Girl With Balloon,” was auctioned off for a whopping $1.4 million, the artwork began to shred itself.
It’s glorious.
Since then, people have been editing various images into Banksy’s shredding frame, from driver’s licenses to French fries.
Some renditions got political.
Banksy’s prank coincided with Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation, and people quickly compared it to the destruction of democracy.
One person cleverly used a video to make a point about climate change.
What will Banksy do next? Whatever he pulls off, at least you’ll know that Twitter will be there to meme it.
