E3 2017 kicks off today at the Los Angeles Convention Center and before the annual video game conference gets underway we get an early glimpse at Ace Combat 7 with this action-packed trailer. This game sounds like it will have everything that you could want from the successful aerial dogfighting franchise including space elevators, jets with frickin’ laser beams attached to them.
Bandai Namco released its E3 2017 trailer for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unkwonn on Friday and it looks like an updated Top Gun, but with princesses. Strap yourself into one of the numerous sophisticated aircrafts and prepare to do acrobatic battle with your flying foes. The trailer focuses on the single-player campaign, but Ace Combat 7 will offer both online and local multiplayer modes.
Ace Combat 7 is the latest chapter of the long-running dogfighting series, and Kazutoki Kono, producer of Ace Combat 7 and head of the Project Aces team, told GameSpot that they plan to go back to the game’s roots that made it popular. “Now we want to listen to the users’ voice more closely so we can get back to the roots of the series: Strangereal.” That means that they are going back to the Strangereal universe where a conflict between the Osean Federation and the Kingdom of Erusea erupts.
The game was initially scheduled to released at the end of this year, but it has since been delayed to 2018. Kono explained that the delay was necessary to ensure that Project Aces “achieve[s] the vision” it has for the game. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unkwonn will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and it will feature VR support. Bandai Namco plans to show off non-VR missions for the first time at E3 2017.
